We want to thank everyone who donated to Optometry Giving Sight!!!

Including Dr. Exam donations, Patients donations, and Face book likes we raised a total of $ 1503.16.

Orangeville, Ontario – — Local optometrists of Orangeville, is joining the World Sight Day Challenge during the month of October to help give the gift of vision to people in developing countries.

In honour of World Sight Day (which is October 13), Dr. Orr and Dr. Brodie will be donating ½ their exam fees on Tuesday, October 30th to help provide eye exams and glasses to children in developing countries who can’t see well enough to learn at school, as well as adults who don’t see well enough to provide for their families. During October 30th we will be celebrating with a cupcake and cookie sale, $1.00 per treat. Or buy a handmade bracelet or pair of earrings if sweets aren’t your thing. Random draws throughout the day of a complimentary cloth and spray will also take place on this special day.

Throughout the month of October our office has come up with some fun ways for patients and staff to donate a couple of dollars to a great cause and also have the chance to win something!!! For $1.00, you can take a wild guess on how many jelly beans are in the jar; if your guess is the closest, you win the whole jar!  Make a donation of $1.00 and have your name entered into the draw of your choice. One of three tote bags from our suppliers Boss Orange, Tura and Juicy Couture; one of two $15 Starbucks gift cards; a “Perfect Patch” occlusion patch; a fun and funky umbrella from Tura; one of two handmade necklaces or a beautifully hand-knitted scarf and toque set by our receptionist Jen Fish. Draws and jelly bean count winners will be notified at the beginning of November.  All winners will have their picture taken for our website and our Facebook page.

Optometry Giving Sight, the organizer of the World Sight Day Challenge, funds programs that provide eye exams and glasses, trains local eye care professionals and develops vision centres that deliver long-term vision care to people in desperate need.  There are 670 million people who are blind or vision impaired simply because they don’t have access to an eye examination and glasses.

“We have supported Optometry Giving Sight for 3 years and are proud to donate to such a worthwhile cause,” said both Dr. Orr and Dr. Brodie.  “It’s easy for us to take good vision for granted so taking the World Sight Day Challenge is a great way to raise funds to help people who don’t have access to even basic vision care.”

Dr. Orr and Dr. Brodie were both inspired by stories like that of 18 year old Donglian from a rural province of China – although her blurred vision stopped her from seeing the blackboard, she hadn’t told her teacher as she didn’t want to make a fuss. Caring for her mentally ill father and working the family’s farmland for four hours each day before school, Donglian couldn’t afford an eye exam.

Thanks to a visit from a team of newly trained local eye care professionals and a pair of glasses, Donglian now has the opportunity to fulfill the potential she has already shown in her young life.

Donations will enable Optometry Giving Sight to fund more sustainable programs that provide eye exams and glasses to millions of people in need.  Raised funds will be directed to projects in 16 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Just $5 can provide an eye examination and a pair of glasses for someone in a developing country. Dr. Orr and Dr. Brodie are also inviting their patients to make a donation at Dr. Orr and Dr. Brodies practice throughout October.

Optometry Giving Sight guarantees that 85 percent of all funds raised by optometrists and their patients go directly to programs that give sight to those most in need.
